Tradition

The mild climate, fertile soil and sea links have contributed to the rise of a rich culinary tradition.

The region can boast of a wide variety of dishes and, due to its proximity to the ocean and fishing industry have long established, it is not surprising that there is fresh fish and seafood in abundance, producing so many well-known local specialties, including Delicious Fish Stew.

Specialties

A long and proud history of wine production has resulted in some excellent wines, especially the area of Palmela.

Other regional specialties include cheese, with a variety of excellent sheep's milk Azeitão that deserves a special mention, sausages, produced in various ways, and many cakes and pastries, a legacy of the monastic heritage of the area when they were often created by monks.
